Identification of Potential and Interventions for Talent Development

Evaluation

Different stakeholders have different needs and views of the same programme; therefore it is necessary to give them opportunities to voice their concerns. Stakeholders would include parents of the gifted students, gifted students themselves, teachers of the gifted students and school administrators. It would be good to obtain feedback from the stakeholders, such as asking them for the strengths and weaknesses of the programme; for factors that may have affected programme goals, for factors that may have affected student goals; for the allocation of resources and budget; and for the implementation and running of the programme. This would be done fortnightly through interviews so that data can be reviewed and fine-tuning can be done regularly to achieve alignment of evaluation with the programme.

Conclusion

The proposed programme has various discrete cognitive skills and associated heuristics in various branches of Math; and application of skills in relevant strategies and heuristics in complex and realistic contexts. Evaluation looks into the feedback of stakeholders, the time frame allocated, the resources needed and the achievement of short-term and long-term goals. The programme also reinforces habits of mind (HOM) as students are encouraged to exercise independent thought as they refine and evaluate their own thinking, gather evidence to make interpretation and comparison, and develop both intellectual humility and suspension of judgement.
